That made my day =)

oh SURE, now everyone is talking about fly spray, mosquito spray, strips, traps, etc. so how come i got talked into ducks and bat houses????????

Well, the ducks and bats will do a MUCH better job, and are so much more fun than accidentally getting your hair tangled on a fly strip.

Besides, you know you love your duckies

Welcome to BYC! I've always wondered about the fly problem too with no luck. I did though just this week put up one of those disgusting smelling fly traps just for kicks. So far I would estimate about 500 flies! Just a drop in the bucket but hey that's 500 less right?
What smelly fly trap is everyone talking about? Can you show a picture? How much does it cost?

It took forever catching up with a week's worth of posts. So much tragedy and excitement. I loved the pics of the birds, the snake, the cake and the little Cooper too. Yep, we all love our Flock Mistress, we're extra lucky that she's from AZ. Finally, a BIG WELCOME to all the new people!

Ack, X2!!!!! I can't catch up! Just spent an hour, only made it this far, and now have to go hand out veggies at the CSA...Really, I second the condolences and congrats, and cheers to all the great people here! Nova, you dealt with your tragedy with such grace!

Gallo - I DO want to come see the new happenings!!!! I got delayed, but do you have time in the next few days???

Oh, I should mention that the plastic on the refillable fly traps does not stand up to sunlight very well. Mine have lasted only about two years and it was in the shade more than half of the time. Ironically, the disposable ones seemingly last forever. It's really gross trying to get the old flies out of them to refill them though.

This is the one I use, it's reusable. They also come as a disposable type. HD carries them. Oh, they cost $6.49 there ($4.97 for the disposable).

I have a large yard with many chickens and turkeys, also have several close neighbors with horses, so flies are a major problem here. I bought the disposable Rescue brand fly traps at Valley Vet Supply online, 24 of them, came out to $3.59 each. They store for a long time and I'll always need them--so figured better to buy in volume and pay less :) I have found the Rescue brand works better than other brands I've tried, but don't let them dry out. I've got about 6 of them hanging in various parts of the yard. I also get fly predators delivered every 3 weeks--but I couldn't do without the fly traps. The fly predators don't have a long range, so they don't control the flies breeding over at the neighbor's.
