Arizona Chickens

Thanks Gallo, Chris and Selina. 95% of teaching is great. And you can sign up for my welding class as I teach it at MCC. Gallo - it might be a bit of a commute for you though.

I had a terrible dream about all my chickens dying last night. Ambien makes you go beddy-bye but is sure messes with your mind!

I'm up and about today - going to see how long I can stay vertical & if I can hang the gate that has been un-hung since I caught this bug.

Healthy day to you all and your flocks!

Mahonri: he isn't pure white, he's got a little tiny buff patch by his left wing. He is such a sweetie. I really hope I can find a home for him. If not I may keep him around if he isn't too noisy. You know more about Icelandics than I do, but I'm not 100% convinced that he is a he. The hackle feathers are not very pronounced, and his ankles are much narrower than the other boys. I guess we'll know in a little while.

I love the webcam. That is awesome. I would never be able to do that because I would never get any work done.

On a side note...do the chickens quiet down a bit after they layed a few eggs? Mine just started laying (got first egg yesterday) and boy does she make a lot of noise before and after. I was wondering as time progressed if they got less noisy?

Not sure about the noise. I have one that doesn't make a peep before, after, or during and one that is very vocal about the ordereal when she's done.

Just courious. How old are your pullets? Hatch date?

I am getting so anxious for my girls to start laying. They hatched on 1/4 (5 of them), 1/18, and 1/25. Could be any day, right? I keep searching the bushes in hopes to find extra eggs but there is nothing and the 4 nesting boxes only contain the two adults eggs. UGG...I can't contain the eggcitement. One PBR and one RIR have red waddles and redish pink combs. The two hatched 1/25 are Ideal 236 (White Leghorns Hybrids) and they have pinkish red combs and waddles as well and are suppose to start laying any time after 13 weeks. They are 17, 15, and 14 weeks. I am down to 4 eggs in the fridge...come on girls...make me some breakfast

MikeyD, that was fantastic. It sure sounds like you make a tremendous difference in many young peoples lives. Hooray for all of the teachers out there.

pdx2phx...what a great story! Congratulations.

In2ice - In my experience, they are either noisy or quiet depending on their personality, not their age. The loud ones seem to stay loud. Maybe that won't be your situation, though.

Itsredcandy...She turned 20 weekd yesterday and that is the day I got my first egg. Not dure if a second one followed yet today. They were all (4) hatched on Dec. 15th.. 2 EE'ers and 2 Brahmas. It was one of the EE'ers that layed the egg.i
