Arizona Chickens

Wish this is how I could pick up my chickens. Usually it's feeding a treat, sitting still then a quick grab of its tail as it's running away. My girls do not like to be petted or held. Boo-hoo

I like to get them from QC Supply. The push-in types are best for buckets and the threaded types are easiest to install in pvc. You can teach older girls to use them, but you have to watch to be sure that they really have it down before you let them go completely without other watering sources.

I actually think they learn faster if they DON'T have other watering sources. I have converted 5 month old birds to the nipples with no problems. Moved them to new pens with the nipples. After a few hours, when I knew they would be good and thirsty, I would show a few of them how to use them (by holding their heads and making their beaks cause the water to come out). They quickly learn and the others learn from them. If you leave the regular water in with them, they will just use that instead of learning the new system. I also moved about 30 chicks, 2-4 weeks old or so, into a pen with the nipples. The nipples were set at height for adult birds, so I put some concrete blocks under so they could reach. I only showed 6 or so how to use them. They all picked it up and not a one looked stressed like it wasn't getting enough water.

I am looking for Mike Miller, he is a breeder of White Faced Black Spanish here in AZ
I am wondering if anyone here knows him? Or how I might find a way to contact this person? I was about to contact Jim Bell in TN, but then I learned that there was a fellow Arizonan that loves this breed too! I am very interested in acquiring WFBS, preferably Exhibition quality, but I am pretty flexible I love this breed and I want to do anything I can to help conserve it. Thank you guys for any help.

Welcome. You only have two? Just wait till you discover chicken math ) I live in Mesa and just started raising chickens in January. I love it and hope someday my chickens will love me too. I have 10. 2 I bought as adults and 8 I bought as chicks. The youngest are 13 weeks and the oldest pullets are 17 weeks. They should all, hopefully, be laying soon.
