Arizona Chickens

Got 11 eggs yesterday.

Dropped a board by accident and killed my last sulmtaler pullet.

I hate myself.

I'm not a good backup for ca.

Hope my birds survive this heat.

That's terrific. How old are your girls and when did they start laying? I am impatiently waiting for my 22 week olds to lay. I get a dozen every other week from my two adults.
I just picked them up about two weeks ago. I'm told that they are all 1 year old. I don't know when they started. Sorry.

I have three roo's for rehoming if anyone is interested, 1 serma, 1 cochin mix, 1 RIR mix with beautiful green feathers! They were hatched in February! I just want to make sure they go to good homes, they are strictly for pets and not food! PM me if you are interested!

I have a young cockerel with definite health issues, there's something wrong with his crop, he limps bad, refuses to grow... probably gonna have to cull him pretty soon. Sad, since this is my 4 yo brothers favorite pet. Looks like right now is just a bad time for everyone, seeing as birds are dropping like flies.

Ah well, how is everyone else under the blazing Arizona sun today?

BlueBell is no differant this morning. No food in her crop, just stands there. Doesn't come for loving. Her eyes look real good. Open and clear. No nose drips. Not panting. I think I am loosing her!

Well my 24 week old Light Brahma layed her first egg today
yippiechickie.gif
It weighed in at 1.555 ounces. It was a reddish brown color. Boy was she making a fuss squawking all day before laying that egg. So now 3 of my 4 are laying. Hopefully my Buff Brahma will follow suit soon. My 2 EE'ers have been laying now for 4 weeks now. They all 4 were hatched on the same day. I was beginning to think I had 2 free loaders living in my coop
Different breeds mature at different rates; likewise, different breeds begin laying at different ages. Sometimes there is even a difference between different varieties of the same breed. Brahmas are not a fast developing breed; they tend to be on the slow side of development. Most production breeds (and I would include hatchery Easter Eggers in that category) tend do mature more rapidly.
