Arizona Chickens

Hi Everyone,
You are all busy as always here on the AZ thread. Almost 3000 pages! Wow.

I have been absent for awhile, a loooong while. I am hoping you won't hold that against me.

We have a broody hen in Mesa that we would like to give some fertile eggs to. We were thinking of giving her something other than chicken eggs, as we are good on chickens for the time being. Does anyone have fertile eggs, maybe muscovy duck or quail that they'd consider selling? Or, if you have some chicken eggs, We can have her raise some babies and for you. We just don't need more chickens right now. PM me and let's talk. Or...if you have some specialty chicken eggs, we might look into starting with a new breed. Send ideas our way!

Thanks a bunch!
Holly

Welcome back Holly! Seems like lots of AZ people getting into ducks lately. I hope you can find something interesting to put under your girl.

Quote: Get several look-alikes and give them all the same name. For example, all your barred rocks could be named "Candy." Put legbands of the same colour but different numbers on all (or even better, toe punch them). And when he sees them, say "No, honey, that isn't a different bird--it's Candy. The barred rock is Candy. You must be talking about Providence, my RIR." If he says he sees two or more at the same time, tell him it's time to schedule an eye appointment, that his vision is off, and the double vision is worrying you.

edited to add, I really did not pay attention to who I was replying to. I was just looking for a name that went with "rock." Then I saw my post with your name right at the top!

HOA's = Communist dictatorship (avoid them at all cost!)
Quote: Have to disagree here. It is simply a matter of contract law. Don't like it, don't sign the contract (which means find a home in another neighborhood). Also, the cases you hear about are not the norm. You never hear about the ones that are doing a good job and serving their residents, and that is the majority of them.

Quote: Check your zoning code and its allowed uses. Specifically look for what home businesses are allowed, and also what limitations there may be (hours, numbers of employees, signage, additional traffic, etc.) Typically if you can't see the business or signs of it, there is unlikely to be a problem. If the hours it is open, the amount of traffic generated, noise levels or there are employees who do not live at the residence generate nuisances, the business is likely to be disallowed except in a zone that mixed residential and business zone; but even then a mechanics shop may well not fit into the allowed businesses--that is more a light industrial business. Of course, building and rebuilding cars is a big hobby with a lot of guys, and that is not a business.

LOL! At least you know they are honestly working hard for a living =) My dad was one of those who worked as a mechanic out of our garage. He couldn't afford to get a "shop" in town to do his work. Is it the prettiest? Nope. It is a sign of the struggle Americans are faced with in terms of income and jobs. My heart goes out to them. Freedom over dictatorship

Oh yeah. I agree with you. I just wish they wouldn't triple park in the street for days on end. The one at the end of the street at least has the cars up in the yard. Not pretty, but at least out of the way.

That is so cool!
I saw this on FB today from Manna Pro...

"Have you heard of The Egg Skelter? Previously only available in the U.K., we are EGGcited to be bringing this hot item to the U.S. this fall! Just in time to receive the eggs from your Spring chicks! Coming in cream, silver and red! Visitwww.eggskelter.com and enter your email address to be notified as soon as they become available!"

I would be worried about what they are doing with their discarded oil and other fluids

Sonoran Silkies, I did what you said and felt the vent area on Poppy. Very loose vent. So we at least can be more sure of hen then not sure. You said you have 2 paint roosters to sell? Could you please send pictures and tell me what one would cost and I can come with my friend to Tempe when she picks up her daughter but not really sure yet what day. [email protected]

Hello All.

I am brand new to the Forum and have been wanting chickens for about a month now. My wife is adamantly opposed to them, thinking they'll be the grossest, smelliest creatures on Earth. I am hoping to find someone near Peoria, Arizona that is currently raising them and has a good, fairly small setup. I would love to bring her and my girls by so that they can experience it and see they really aren't as bad as she thinks.

Any takers? Any recommendations? I decided to post a new message, rather than trying to track down everyone individually. I've found a few in Mesa and Glendale, but feel like contacting them directly is sort of akin to telemarketing... Yuck.

Thanks in advance!
Scott
