Arizona Chickens

Hello All. I am brand new to the Forum and have been wanting chickens for about a month now. My wife is adamantly opposed to them, thinking they'll be the grossest, smelliest creatures on Earth. I am hoping to find someone near Peoria, Arizona that is currently raising them and has a good, fairly small setup. I would love to bring her and my girls by so that they can experience it and see they really aren't as bad as she thinks. Any takers? Any recommendations? I decided to post a new message, rather than trying to track down everyone individually. I've found a few in Mesa and Glendale, but feel like contacting them directly is sort of akin to telemarketing... Yuck. Thanks in advance! Scott

I know. All of the humidity, and none of the rain. I have a swamp cooler. This really sucks for me.

Have to disagree here. It is simply a matter of contract law. Don't like it, don't sign the contract (which means find a home in another neighborhood). Also, the cases you hear about are not the norm. You never hear about the ones that are doing a good job and serving their residents, and that is the majority of them.

By law, a majority of the homeowners in an association have to approve any change in the bylaws. But many boards sidestep this by simply changing their house rules, which are as binding as bylaws but can usually be rewritten without asking all the homeowners. "Even if you were to be given the rules today, they're probably already out of date because [boards are] constantly making changes to the rules at whim," says Elizabeth McMahon, a co-founder of the American Homeowners' Resource Center, a San Juan Capistrano, Calif., consumer group. "And they couldn't care less if you don't like them."
At the Reston (Va.) Homeowners Association, for instance, only residents who used the swimming pools and tennis courts had to pay for their upkeep. But then in 1990, the board decided everyone ought to chip in, and it polled members. More than 70% of those who voted opposed the new rule, but it didn't matter. In the end, the board pushed it through anyway, and fees climbed 26%. "They disregarded the will of the people," says Thierry Gaudin, a Reston homeowner, "and that was wrong."
It may be wrong, but it's the board's right. Period. "Bottom line, the board has to have the right to run the show," says attorney Benny Kass, who represents associations. About all you can do is keep up to speed on any changes the board makes in the rules, and if you don't like them, complain. The sooner you raise a fuss, the better: Rules that have been around for a while tend to be the hardest to change.

Wow. Once again, we got rain near Bopp/San Joaquin and you didn't get it in town. Very strange.

It was a lovely rain here. Not much accumulation at my house but it cooled the yard down from 109 to 84 in no time. And it was nice enough to let up just before sunset, so I could still get in a late afternoon hike. Sweet!

I am in north phoenix, boarding glendale. However, I would not exactly be the best person to convince someone else to get chickens. I have ahem, 19 ducks, 7 large fowl and 13 silkies. That's a very low number of chickens for me. I am a chicken yo-yo-er. But the ones in the bator are not mine!
