That what I built the A frame and they will go up the plank and hang out but when it comes to bed time they all three lay in a corner of the coop. I hope soon they will start to roost
 
I got a visit from animal control, someone called in saying that the chickens were diseased, we had too many, the rooster was obnoxious, and that the coop smelled. The animal control officer came out, saw that we have nine chickens, they were healthy, the rooster wasn't loud and we were building a box to keep him inside in the morning, and the coop smelled fine and was clean.

So, she went away without issuing a citation or doing anything. It makes me really steamed, since NONE of my neighbors have any problem with us, except for the people who live on one side of us. They don't really do anything, but they're nasty, hateful people who don't get along well with anyone. I'm not sure if I should get rid of Malcolm to keep the peace, or if I should keep him as long as I can, just to annoy them.
 
Oh for sure keep Malcolm! Annoy them. If you are allowed to keep a rooster then they can't do anything about it! The heat is bringing the mean out in people!
 
Well, the problem is, we're only allowed to have a rooster if the rooster doesn't cause a 'noise disturbance'. I think the only way that we might have a problem is with the morning crowing, but my husband had already started building a cage to keep him inside at night (and more importantly, in the early morning), so I think we should be ok. The really annoying thing is that we were already doing this, and would have TOLD them we were doing this, if they'd bothered to talk to us and work out a solution like reasonable people, instead of calling animal control.

3 brown eggs today for 1st time ever! The big, dark double yolker is from one of our 18 week old GSLs- yowch! I hope she keeps having dark ones, they are very pretty with the little spots and all.

We had very strong winds but no rain, but had rain 2 miles away. I locked up the chickens so they wouldn't blow away.

Sorry to hear this. People are just mean. Neighbors can suck at times. I'd keep the roo.
