Arizona Chickens

Hi pollyg,
I have to disagree with the statement Gilbert HOA's do not allow chickens. Mine has no clause in it relating to chickens and therefor that is not a problem from an HOA point of view. Do you already have your next home in Gilbert lined up or still looking? I have learned one has to watch out for 2 things, yes, what are the CC&R's of the HOA you are moving into if there is no mentioning about fowl or chickens (like in my HOA's CC&R's) then one has to watch out to be in a Zone SF-8 or higher. Those zones allow Chickens here in Gilbert.
Maybe you would like to be a part of bringing in change for Gilbert chicken lovers (there should be plenty around I would think) that live in SF-7 or lower zones so we all have the possibility to raise chickens if we like.

Lets connect if you like once you are out here in Gilbert, best wishes for your move,

Hello, I live in Phoenix Az and i am relocating to Gilbert where no chickens are allowed. I am wondering if u or anyone u might know is interested in taking over the care of my 3 hens and 1 rooster along with the coop for Free. Im just looking to find a good home for them and hoping u will Love them as much as I do too. 2 of them are wellsummers and the other 2 are jersey giants and are approx 6-8 months old, only one is laying eggs. I am sad to have to find new homes for them and would appreciate it if u ask around and let me know. Thanks in advance

I live in far north phoenix on an acre (carefree hwy and I-17) I would be open to taking them, I know its far but if you are every up that way you can also stop in for eggs :) PM me if you are interested. I currently have 2 roosters, 4 laying hens, 6 pullets, and 5 baby chicks in the brooder that I hatched.....Just be careful if you put them on craigslist, I am not apposed to eating chicken or even killing chickens for food if that is what they were raised for but my chickens are my pets and that is all I am looking for (although if a rooster is mean I cant make any guarantees)

I am very interested and hope this works out for both of us. Im glad to hear that you wont eat my chickens because I got them as pets and have grown to love them dearly. I hate the fact that i cant keep them and would love knowing they are going to a caring home. Would love hearing from u soon. My moving date is November 1st and have had a few responses from word of mouth at work and friends so im hoping to make a decision within the next month or so. Thx again and I will keep in touch.

We spoke to Power Ranch HOA's office and they told us "no chickens" allowed and yes we already have the home and had no idea prior to the purchase :(

Quote: For a large plot of land, rezoning might be a possibility; for example, large fields at the corners of major streets are often rezoned from whatever the previous zoning was to accomodate retail stores, businesses or apartments. And individual lot in the middle of a zone is something else again. Now if you are on the edge of one zone, and the characteristics of your lot fits that zone better than the zoning it does have, that might be something that would be considered.

I am confused. I looked up my use code in Gilbert under the assessor's site and my address and it says SFR GRADE 010-4 URBAN SUBDIVIDED, 18000 sft lot. I am higher than an 8 but still in a subdivision. Anyone knows what that means? Am I allowed to have chickens if my homeowners assoc agrees? Well, it is a mute point because I do already but just curious. :) They have a cool satellite view map if you click on GIS map and you can use their tools to find the distance of your coop to the neighbors houses. Mine is over 150-190 ft. I think I am safe from detection...LOL

Hi Parentwarrier,
yes you are aloud to have chickens even if you are in a subdivision. If your HOA has no clause stating chickens are forbidden in your subdivision the you are good to go. You have the right to raise up to 25 fowl. Good for you, way to go :)

Yea!!!!!!! I do think my homeowners states no more than 2 animals of 'any kind' but I will ignore that...LOL It is written strangely, nobody abides by it anyway.
