Arizona Chickens

You are welcome. Michael is very proud when people thank him. I had a big worry when he called a few weeks ago and said the helicopter he was in crashed. He is an aircraft mechanic and he and some others were allowed to take a ride. They were up 100 feet when a few engines decided to fail. He said it felt like slow motion coming down. Luckily no one got hurt. Glad he is back in the states!

Oh, thank God that he had the Angels watching over him. A hundred feet may not sound like a lot when you're talking about the typical height of a helicopter, but being trapped in a steel cage... That's an average of ten stories! I'm extremely glad no one was hurt!
Someone already had MamaHen so my daughter said to get MomaHen. If you see me, wave :)

That is a really cool plate and fits your style very well. I didn't realize they even had a wood-grained one. These days, it's a miracle to get anything that's even readable. Then again, with 40-something different styles, who can keep track! Congrats.

You need to let the breeder know about the deformity.

It crops up in Marans. It happened to me once and the breeder ended up having to cull most of her breeding stock.

Hey All,
So I am posting in some other places also but wanted some feedback. I put my eggs in lockdown on the 3rd today I came and two of the eggs that had pipped hatched while I was gone so I dont know which chick came from which eggs but one of the chicks looked wrong, it was hard to tell through the hatcher window so I pulled the chick out (lightening fast so I didnt mess up the humidity and temp) and found that is was somewhat deformed. It is missing the outside toe on each foot. Also where the umbilical cord was is bulging. It is chirping/screaming non stop and I am afraid it is in pain and not sure if I should cull it. From observing it appears to have issues getting its legs under it almost like they are splayed. It is suppose to be a maran and I bought the eggs on byc.

Here are some pics

The umbilical issue relates to incubation. Put neosporin on it, and make sure it says on a clean surface. I'll have to go check my references, but I think it is either too much humidity or too high temperature that are the cause.

hatch update!
its day 21 and we have:
6 fluffy EE x Barnevelder
3 alohas from the large eggs - - however, only 1 chick is large, the other 2 must have been swimming in all that egg space
9 random alohas, all except 2 are yellow. the other 2 have one brown stripe.

i will try to get pictures later, but i have a horrible camera.

@beehappy: how is the rest of your hatch turning out? what did you do with that little guy? i've saved ones with umbillical problems, they usually heal. but i have had to cull one that couldnt uncurl his legs. hoping the best for you and your chicks!

oh, a little heads up. i was at mesa feed barn today and they had a mess of chickens. no chicks but looked like some 1 month old mix breeds straight run. also some grown silkie roos and golden laced something pullets. and the coolest polish rooster i've seen, not tolbunt, but had similar coloring.
i just hatched - - thats the only reason i left without chickens, lol

Good looking guy! Tell him thank-you for me, for doing what he does. My brother did two tours in Afganistan. It's not easy.
Not chicken related but had to share. Picked up my son at the airport today. He has been in Bahrain since March. He is on a 2 week leave.
