Lisa, what are they? Beautiful male! Looks like a James T. Kern

He is a Splash Arkansas blue egg layer. Lisa hatched him from eggs from my flock.

LOL - these are Arkansas Blues: a splash roo & a black hen.
She lays amazing light sky blue eggs (the one at the 3 o'clock position)

I'd probably be calling him Kirk if he hadn't had been so flaming difficult to find & catch for the last 2 weeks.
Hence - Houdini.

For a bird living out in pasture since Sep/Oct 2014, he was surprising polite to shampoo & blow dry. No biting or spurring.
He's fat, no bugs, & good-looking poo. Yay for free-range.

Was he roosting up a tree? They are much easier to catch at night. They are very acrobatic, jump high and fly very well.

Not when I caught him but I think he has been with the 4 midget turkeys he's been hanging out with.
I was smart & went out there about dusk. I found him in a large portable coop. I just shut myself up in there with him & my net & cage and - gotcha!

My little guy is very polite. But, when I snagged him off the perch one night after dark he wailed like a baby the whole time I held him

Isn't that funny? They sounds like they're KNOW they're about to be EATEN. Big babies.

I'll have to post a pic. I can usually distinguish my one Arakansas blue (blue) hen's egg from ccl. but this last hatch one is REALLY light. Not sure if its a recessive white from the ccl. So if the Ccl was the male over a blue hen, I thought I'd get black chicks. not sex linked though

If you use CCL x Blue Arkansas (ie not splash or black) you will get 50% barred black and 50% barred blue birds with red leakage.
