Arkansas Blue egg layers

Pics
As of yet, I don't even have a Ark Blue I my possession. But hopefully soon and I plan on monkeying around with the breed with an eye towards becoming even better super blue egg layers. I promise never to call them "Arkansas Blue"! Thinking that "Old Southern Barred Blue Bird Egger with a California Accent" might be a good name. Does anyone know if that name has been taken yet?

I have a couple of California Gray hens that I'm very impressed with and hoping to cross with an Ark Blue. They lay white eggs but lots of em! Hence the "barred" in my new chicken name.

I truly hope my levity with this subject doesn't offend anyone. Just that life can be serious and raising chickens is my way of escaping that.

I second that. I personally want to see some blue barred chickens! I am 5 generations along in a project cross of primarily White Leghorn commercial lines with distant Blue Ameraucana in them(instead of the Araucana used in U of A blues). I am selecting for pea combs and blue egg genes as well as selecting for black/barred birds to remove the dominant white from the commercial leghorn line. I found the U of A birds after starting my project, doh!

Is there a standard most folks are breeding to or like myself, just trying to get hens that lay lots of beautiful blue eggs? I've had someone laying nice blue eggs this spring and today figured out who it was. She is the result of crossing a Cream Legbar over an EE that lays off white eggs.

Planning on crossing her with Ark Blue. I thought she was going broody so late afternoon I removed all but a few eggs and marked the remaining ones. When I checked tonight to see if she was still there, I found her new blue egg; but she was roosting.

What cross made that dark green egg? That is a beautiful blue egg also. I want some! Kern
