Arkansas folks speak up.........

Those feathered legs sure look funny, especially on the buff second from the bottom. I had to look twice to see what I was looking at. And you talk about Draye's naked necks.
Good one!
I agree with getting rid of the roo. Roo should protect not kill. We were gone for a week and it is amazing how much chicks change! I can't wait to see how the colors finish off!
You know what? Looks like those guys that don't know how to wear pants. You know the ones that wear them sagging and showing their........................................................................................................rear.

I know! I think they look like they are cowboys with chapps flapping around. Plus they have NO butt feathers yet. So funny how different birds feather in.

Yep! They are definatly in the awkward teenage stage. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I have another broody sitting 8 more. She is due this weekend. We'll see how they turn out!

I'm sure it'll look better once it is mature. Cochins go throug a very slow grow spell and take their time filling out.

I've had only one cochin before and Idon't remember her taking so long to feather in but she's two now so I have slept since then.

My 11 or 12-week old chicks are looking great now but the 5-weeks old look really rough. I'm can't wait until they get the new feathers in. That in-between look is pretty funny. They look like they were tossed into a fan or something.
Yep. My babies look pretty rough. We call it the awkward teenage stage.

I call that the vulture stage. Imagine a group of black chicks lined up on a perch with those rough feathers. 5 week olds should be leaving that stage pretty soon.
Yep. Mine are at 6 weeks and they are feathering slow. I guess it is the Cochin traits. Some of them have very few tail feathers and NO butt feathers yet. So interesting to watch the differences. These guys have more feathers on their feet and legs than I have ever seen. Of course they do come from a great breeder so I guess I should expect it.

Candling tonight to see how my 8 under the broody are doing. Locking her down tomorrow and day 21 is Saturday but we have generally been running a day or so early with the broody hatches.

Wish me luck!

Anyone have any dealings with Nine Mile Creek Poultry in West Little Rock?

I have bought several chicks from him. He is a very, veey nice gentleman. His prices are reasonable for the common chicken breeds such as BOs and RRs. The more not so common, I heaitate to say rare, are pretty pricey. I ended up with a few roosters out of my pullets, but he'll tell you that it's about an 85% assurance on each chick's sex.
