Arkansas folks speak up.........

Hi everyone,

Roche, I'm sorry to hear about the storm trouble. Glad it wasn't worse. I know what you mean about nerves being shot. Ever since that tornado came close by here, I get nervous with any wind or rain.

We were gone for two days and I just came home to two dead hens; one of my Silkies I've had for two years, and one of my new Faverolle pullets. The poor little Fav had got head first down in a cement block and couldn't get out. Apparently the lady I had checking on them didn't come by this afternoon. I am going out first thing tomorrow to fix that block where it can't happen again.

Soo strange some of the conversations that disappear off these boards, obliterated, judged and decreed...

But Peepers!

I'm gonna try to talk her into Duffy too. heheeheh I'm thinking that after RueRoo moves, I can introduce a couple of pullets and Betty Boy to the big girl pen and then move the baby cuckoo marans outside so I can then move the broody and her chicks that are due on the 6th to the sectioned side of the coop so that they won't get pecked.

Any thoughts?

I hope you have better luck than I did introducing pullets to older hens. That is what I was doing with my Faverolle pullets. The one who died in the block was trying to hide from the old hens who were relentless in chasing her whenever she got off the roost. I had put pinless peepers on the hens I thought would be the most mean, but the hen that was chasing them had kicked her peepers off.

What do you mean about the conversations? I must have missed something.

I sure hope I'm able to get these chickens situated as well! I have baby cuckoos that really, really need to come on out of the coop and start getting some sunshine!

The convo that disappeared was about drug addicts and last I saw of it, people had different views, but nothing got really nasty. It was actually quite interesting and when I went back to read some more, it was gone. *pewfed*

I know, I was involved in several interesting conversations when the gestapo came in and made the whole thread just disappear. It is sort of getting boring on here.

Hello all from Camden. I couldn't read all 143 pages. I'm new to Chickens and the BYC. I'm raising some to sell and some to keep. I have about 7 different breeds. I'm going to keep mostly the NHR's because they matured so fast and I plan on hatching my own chicks and have read that they are a very broody bird. I drive a truck over the road. My little brother lives with me and tends to the animals when I'm gone as part of his rent. So far we've had no problems. Even with the 100 degree days we had at the end of June. I'm looking into installing a roof vent into the chicken house. Maybe an a/c unit! Ha. I like for them to be comfortable and happy

Welcome rooster! We have not had a problem with the heat either. There are a few shady areas in the yard where the birds will go to cool off. I still see them running around though when they think I am not looking.

They just pant a little. We also put electrolytes in the water for them. They were laying normal all through the heat. Anyway welcome to the group

Hi Rooster! Welcome to BYC!! I love that we're ever widening our state with chicken people.

My broodies have started hatching! So far I have two fluffy babehs and the other two eggs are pipped. The girls are uber protective. All of the other hens keep coming in to have a peek at what's going on in the nestboxes and I had to put a up board over the entrance so they'd leave the broodies be. It's raining cats and dogs here today so at least that keeps me inside and leaving those mamas alone to hatch their two eggs left.

I've been like a nervous dad in the hospital waiting room.
