Arkansas folks speak up.........

Rooster Cogburn Jr. :

Hello all from Camden. I couldn't read all 143 pages. I'm new to Chickens and the BYC. I'm raising some to sell and some to keep. I have about 7 different breeds. I'm going to keep mostly the NHR's because they matured so fast and I plan on hatching my own chicks and have read that they are a very broody bird. I drive a truck over the road. My little brother lives with me and tends to the animals when I'm gone as part of his rent. So far we've had no problems. Even with the 100 degree days we had at the end of June. I'm looking into installing a roof vent into the chicken house. Maybe an a/c unit! Ha. I like for them to be comfortable and happy

Welcome!!!

Thanks y'all for the Welcome. I don't have any hens yet. I have 38 13 week old pullets and cockerels of different breeds. And 51 NHR pullets that are 4 weeks old. Dunno how many I will end up keeping but I plan on hatching my own eggs under hens and incubating. Would be glad to do some trading too when the time comes.

Also. I have my 4 week olds in their own pen right now. I'm going to use it for my broody hens when that time comes. It's best to move them during the night. They will have about 64 sq feet all to themselves till the babies are old enough to come out and theyll be safe from the biguns

I love it. Can't go anywhere without seeing something to use for chickens. Like this kiddie pool I got at Freds for $10 that I used for baby chicks. First go around I used rubbermade totes. Those held about 15 each. The pool held 50 for 4 weeks.

Hey ROOSTER, I live in Camden as well. I have standard as well as several bantams and ducks.

So I finally got to meet Peepers and her DH today! What a sweet couple they are. And they gave RueRoo a home with their girls!

I'm so glad to know that he's going to get a second chance.

My girls seem confused at the moment without him, and I imagine that I'll have a dominate hen who will treat the rest of the girls mean enough to take his place, but I hope soon we'll have peace again in the henhouse.

Now about Duffy...hmmm? He sure is pretty, kinda reminds me of Mick Jagger, and he wants a flock of ladies to call his very own.

I posted once in here about the same thing, and I'm sorry to have to post it again.

I found a great place for my birds to live, but unfortunately, that person is having to move to a new place due to health reasons.

If there is ANYONE in AR or OK that is willing to have a person rent some of their land and time for an almost free flock of birds, PLEASE let me know.

I would be happy to give birds, chicks, eggs, etc. in exchange for a little protection (just watching out, pouring feed in the feeders, looking for injuries that happen during the week) and I would be MORE than happy to pay an amount for it! You could even have some of my birds that I can't use for showing. Heck, you could even show my birds if you have children! I'd be more than happy to donate time to help you learn things that I've picked up after 18 years of breeding!

Please let me know if you know of ANYONE that would or might be interested!
