Well I'm going to add 27 to my family tommorow. I'm getting 17 NHR hens from a guy in Fordyce and 10 RIR hens from a guy in Rison. They are already laying. The 27 are 14 months old and the 10 are less than a year old and just started laying in March. The guy in Rison also has 15 white leghorn hens, 3 brown leghorns, 2 red stars and 3 blacks. I don't think you can get sex-links from RIR/NHR roos and white leghorns. Does anyone know for sure? He's getting rid of them all. All hens. Might see what he'll take for all 33.

Rooster here is some info for you;

2 most common types, but there are others:
For black sex links you mate a RIR or NH roo to a BR hen.
For red sex links you mate a RIR or NH roo to one of the following hens- white rock hen with a recessive gene for silver, delaware or a SLW. Not sure if it would work with a white leghorn hen or not, maybe if she has a recessive silver gene?

Or you could create your own kind of auto sexing breed like the do in the UK. Some of these look pretty nice. They have done way more work on sex link stuff than in the US. Here is some info on that

I have also found that if you visit hatchery websites and click on the sex link bird, it usually tells you what the cross is, so you could use that as a guide.

it looks like the roo has to be a white leghorn and the hen a RIR. I'm the other way around

Look Amanda, whataya think about this blue? It was supposed to be full silkie, which is obviously only part. He just looks so soft, and very pretty.
