Arkansas folks speak up.........

Hello Folks. We may be moving to Arkansas. What can you guys tell me about the North West part of the state, pros and cons, for raising a family there. We love the mountains, but do not know much about living there, having only visited.

Thank you!

I like the NW part of the state pretty well. The area that is the "city part" (fayetteville, rogers, bentonville) is pretty busy and can get lots of traffic. Once you are outside that area and are in the country it is really pretty and folks are nice. Only thing is you have the typical hilly curvy steep roads that are narrow. Some of those are getting better. The biggest problem that is consistent for my family that lives up there is power outages. They loose it alot in rain, wind, and ice storms, which in and of itself is no big deal, but it always takes forever (sometimes 2 weeks or more) for it to get turned back on, which is a big deal. Now you would think that it would be a localized issue, but I have family and friends that span multiple counties up there and that power issue seems to happen to all of them

That is the biggest issue any of them have, the rest of it is awesome up there. We have thought about moving up there many times, but we both work from home on the internet. Lost power and connection to us cost lots of money. Living where we do now (north little rock), we have never lost power for more than an hour or two (we are on the same circuit as a police and fire station in the city and the substation is 2 blocks away). Even though we are in the city we have a huge lot and 1/3 acre fenced backyard for critters, best of both worlds I guess.

From what I understand, some of the schools are top notch and others need major improvement. It varies by school district and sometimes even the schools in the district can vary. I would say narrow down the town(s) or areas you are looking at and check out those districts and schools.

My cousin lives in Tonti Town and I love going up there. She has 2 kids in grade school and I have heard no complaints. I know in the past 10 years the area has grown ALOT. She keeps chickens in her backyard.

OK enough of the rain already, this is supposed to be July! I got about 4 inches in the last week, I know others got more. And of course it always rains on my day off, makes it difficult to get anything done. I have major work to do in my runs to change the water runoff patterns, I'm not sure, but I would like to do the gravel and sand thing, but thats going to be a lot of gravel and sand in thirty by fifty pen. The big one's gonna have to wait, It's still got grass in it.
