Arkansas folks speak up.........

That's cool, the barred ones are cool. I have Partridge, but a friend of mine saw them and wants some Cochins too, doesn't matter what color really. I'd like some, just can't find Partridge for some reason so I'd take black if I can find them.

I stayed home instead and traded someone some Sultan and Silkie chicks for some Silver Spangled Hamburgs, one older pullet and 3 chicks. I think two of the chicks are female....which would be great. My rooster is lonely!

I went to the sale saturday at benton.I just like looking at other peoples oegb's.I have noticed that most sales and swaps have about the same quality oe's.there are very few breeders in our state that have nice oegb's,I really wish we had more.anyone wanting to see quality oegb's search (oegbca),and you can see some very nice birds in the galleries that these guys work very hard to raise.

Well, I finally got some chickens I thought might be good enough to take to the fair, and guess what: NO COUNTY FAIR THIS YEAR! The next county over had some bad storm damage that wiped out their livestock building, no livestock at their fair this year. I've been trying for three days to get in touch with some one the next county over to see if I can enter their fair, and haven't been able to get hold of the extension agent, who apparently is the only one who can tell me. One day he was at the fairground all day. Today he was out of town at a meeting.

Hey, Jen!

You wouldn't have wanted to show in the Drew Co. Fair anyway. I did last year. They don't even have a person who knows one chicken from the next as judge, much less anyone qualified. I happen to know the guy who did it last year. He's a great guy, but he told me they just picked "the prettiest chicken" to be the Best of Show. It was a pen of Sex Link Pullets. There are never very many entries either.

Can we show in Pine Bluff?

Hi ya, Tala!

Red sex links? they're mutts, not even supposed to be in the fair. Well, there were probably more than McGehee has had in a few years. Last year some guy just brought in a barnyard mix so they could have some chickens. As long as there was only one person's chickens there, they let the testing slide. So if I went we would have had to b e tested, and I couldn't find anyone to do it. So this year, I can test them myself. Yes we can show at Pine Bluff, and at state if you get registered in time. State fair has all their rules on line, but I haven't been able to find out much about Pine Bluff yet.

I explained to him that Sex links weren't pure bred and I think he understood cause he does cattle. But, he had already given out the ribbon. Anyway, I guess we'll all be going somewhere else to the fair this year. I don't really have any to show this time. maybe next year.

Sounds like you girls need to get on the fair board and help them out - a lot of smaller fairs - don't do anything with the small animal dept - rabbits and chickens - b/c they don't have anyone interested in running it.
