Arkansas folks speak up.........

Do they carry Junket rennet tabs or just the Junket ice cream mix? All the ones around here just have the ice cream mix. Junket makes lots of products, wish they carried more at local stores. I just looked at the Junket website and they sell it all direct to consumer on there, so if you are not in a hurry, why not go right to the source? Probably will get fresher product than what Wally World has as well. www.junketdesserts.com for those who are interested.

Well they had both when I saw it, but ya know how those things go.

You'll probably have more reliable luck going somewhere like Fermentables. I've been there once they have lots of cool stuff.

I got everything I need to make the cheese. I am going to do it tomorrow morning. the guy at Fermentables gave me his number in case I had any questions. They seem to be good people.

luvarabhorses I am using regular milk (sweet milk). I found a 30 minute mozzarella recipe in GRIT but my MIL said it was online.
I also bought cheese cloth to make cottage cheese.

I met a woman that makes goat milk soap tonight so I may try goat cheese if I can get her to part with some milk.

I made my own laundry soap this month using the instructions in RURAL ARKANSAS. I really like it and it only cost about 4 dollars for 5 gallons. Fels Naptha was hard to find but ACE hardware had it for 1.29. It has been doing a really good job on our clothes

I was so busy today I forgot it was CANDLE night. Yeah!!!!!!! My chicks are due to hatch 10-5-09!!

That Mozzarella is great. Just a tip when you are pulling it - wear some of those thick latex gloves. The stuff is hot as Hades and will burn the poo out of your hands. The first time we did it my wife could not touch it since it was too hot, so I did it for her. My hands were red for days. We went out and bought some clean gloves and marked them as cheese making gloves. Have fun, you will love the taste of it.

The Cheese was great!

My cat had a baby squirrel in her mouth this morning. I called game and fish and they gave me the names of 3 rehabers in the area and all of them already had 2 many patients so now I am trying to take care of a squirrel.

Will try to post a pic. He's very cute and it's hard not to treat him like a pet.

Glad the cheese was good. Good luck with that squirrel. We ran into the same thing one time, we had a tree cut down and there was a nest in it. We had 3 pink little babies that still had not even open their eyes yet. We called around and everyone said "sorry we are full", or that they did not do squirrels. We tried to feed them cat formula since that was what the vet said. Not one of them made it past 2 days despite our efforts

Taking care of those little things was worse than hand feeding a newborn parrot.

I have raised several - yes they can be difficult but once you get them started they just seem to go - most are little fighters. We released all of ours back into the wild and they did just fine.

I've never rehabbed a baby squirrel, but I've rehabbed a couple of cottontail bunnehs. Not sure how much different that might be. I would be too tempted to keep the squirrel.

I've heard that they can tear a house up though!

Good luck with your baby!
