Arkansas folks speak up.........

Its not visibly broken. Its like its paralysed. She can't move it, she dosen't seem to feel it and she can't move her claw. Would a vet see a chicken? I think she got up on a loose perch and when it fell she fell. I feel so bad. I didn't know anything was loose. Im so worried. Its amazing how attached I have become to them after one week.

Any vet that does birds should be able to help. I am positive the North Hills clinic sees birds. One of the vets there does the animals at the zoo. It's not too far from you, it is on JFK. Give them a call 501-835-3577 and see if they can help you.

Im gonna wait until I see her this afternoon before I do anything eles. I was in such a rush this morning. Jarhead, thanks for the number. If she looks the same or worst I will definatly give them a call. I just want to see her.

I might take my lunch to see her. Dose anyone know anything about Market's? Dosen't that cause one leg to go limp? Can they recover?

Urban Dreamer, I'm so sorry this happened. This same type of thing happened to a friend of mine recently. I'd sold her some pullets, and after she had them a couple of weeks, one of them couldn't get up at all one morning, and just sat in the bottom of the coop. We were afraid it was Mareks disease, but wanted to give her a chance. She moved her to a closet by herself in case it was Mareks, but brought her food and water a few times a day. It was over a week before she started trying to get up, but she did start trying, and after another week or so, is back to 100%. I guess she got her leg caught or fell?...or both? I don't know, but if you do have a vet close by, it would be a good idea for him to look at her. I hope it all turns out well for you as it did for my friend.

Welcome 829! I'm in South Central AR.

I left a message with the North Hills Animal Clinic. They have someone who works with exotic animals. She isn't in this morning so Im on my own untill tomarrow. Sigh... I will have a vet look at her and see if there is anything I can do. I hate to think after one week I have to put a bird down.

Dawn, congrats on your babies. They look adorable. Mabey after Eva gets better (if) and I build a better, more reliable coop I will look into gettn some babies from you or Jarhead.

Verycherry, thanks on the info. I hope she will recover. Even if we nicknamed her "mean chicken", I am very attached.

poor chicken... I am so depressed. Did I fail?

Urban if you want any tips on building a new coop or modifying the one you have let me know. I built ours, and I build other stuff all the time. My trademark is to overly engineer everything so it will last. I am not a professional carpenter, but I took woodshop for 6 years in school (which was a long time ago)

I have been tinkering ever since; furniture, home bars, coops, an addition to our house, wood floors, bathroom remodels, privacy fences, you know just basic tinkering. Most folks are pretty impressed with what I come up with, so if you need some ideas or guidance, it's free.
