well, it's awfully white up here now. ice is on the tree limbs outside the window. i have the candles, flashlights and a set of really warm clothes set aside for me and the kids. stocked up on tp and non-perishable snacks and juice and water too. at least i know the chickens are fine--us, i'm a little bit worried about!

they are calling for at least a few, maybe up to 6" of snow. there are lots of microclimates in these parts so, it's a toss up. how are you other nwa peeps coming along?

welcome back cotter had me rolling. dh and about 50 of his closest friends are from mountain home.

Thanks all for the welcome! Sleet is coming down right now and a bit of snow. I am frustrated because I had taken this weekend off work a month ago and dh and I were going to OK to the casino. But nooooo LOL instead we are going to be stuck in the house waiting on the ice and snow to melt. Nice to meet you all. I am planning on setting some eggs for the first time as soon as I get them. I have never had chickens but have been scouring the net for info on raising chicks for the past month so I am sure I will have loads of questions. I am only wanting about 5 and will get rid of the roosters so not quite sure how many to set. I will probably end up with all roosters with my luck LOL.
DH saysss he is going to build a coop to save money but if anyone in NW Arkansas has a used one for sale let me know as I have never seen him build anything LOL.

Howdy ya'll !!!!
it's been a while since I talked to ya'll. The cornish cross rocks that I ordered oh 3 1/2 to 4 months ago that I lost over 1/2? WELL, their still not ready to butcher and I keep feed out for them 24/7. They're tall and lanky but not much weight. Out of 78 I have 30 left after following their directions of only feeding them 2 times a day and NOTHING after 2 pm! Those were the hatcheries directions. After a day or 2 of following this and losing as many as I did......I started pouring the feed to them like I do when I raise chicks in the past. Since then I haven't lost one. I will NEVER raise cornish X rocks ever again. This was my 1st time........and my last.
For the weather, we've been getting drizzlin rain but it's ice balls when it hits the deck/ground. It started about 5:30 pm. and it's 1:40 in the am and it's still going pretty good out there. I'm glad that my DH made it home! He is a trucker. I'm glad that he's safe. I watched the news last night and it showed where NW Arkansas was getting wads of snow! The whole ground was solid white and it looked to be about 4 inches high when scooped by hand.......it was like solid whiteness out there by what the cameras were showing. As long as my electric hold out we'll be alright. I ordered one of those Amish stoves.........and it turns out the one I got was defective so it has to go back. Where ever ya'll are.......if your getting bad weather.......stay safe and warm. Beverly
