I'm so sorry Urban! That's just so heartbreaking. I hope she has a good rest tonight and you're able to get her back up and running tomorrow.

Aww. I'm sorry. That's the sad thing about raising chickens. Sometimes they are sick and we just don't know why or what we can do. Maybe she will get better with some more TLC. I sure hope so.

Aaaaw sorry Urban, so sad to hear about Eva! Here we all thought she was getting better.

My RSL Queenie didn't lay an egg today best I can tell. She hasn't laid in a week so I put her in a dog crate inside the coop before I left for work to see if she was laying at all or hiding them. No egg when I got back. Her belly doesn't feel like there is any eggs or anything bad, she feels about the same as my black sexlink. She is acting perfectly normal so I guess nothing is wrong. The only thing "wrong" with her is a lot of missing feathers on her back because she is the rooster's favorite. He hasn't really hurt her though so I didn't think she needed a saddle - I might try to get one for her though as a preventative measure. I bet she appreciated the break from him today

I saw the craziest thing with my cuckoo group today while they were out freeranging. My cuckoo boy "Big Daddy", has always been such a sweet and gentlemanly guy, but today I witnessed something that just cracked me up. One of his girls was heading back across the yard and he took off in a sprint towards her. When he was about 10 feet behind her, she just stopped and squatted and he of course ran up without a pause and bamma whamma never stopping and stepped right over the top of her head. I don't think his feet ever actually stopped moving!

Perhaps you should get an indoor dog kennel at Walmart or some place and bring her inside. You can get her some fresh greens at the store. If she is going to die, at laest make her feel like royalty!

My mother-in-law says no birdies in the house. (I can't wait for my hubby to get a job so we can move out)

I am going to bring her in for a little bit today after I get off work. Its raining and yucky outside so I figure I could at least warm her up and feed her. I will probally give her some more yogurt, she loves it and I love to watch her eat it. I also need to get the poo off that is caked down her backside again. At least I don't have to water my garden today.

I had my very first chick casualty. My favorite chick, of course. I think it was a blue Orp, a blue something awful fat anyway. (She came from TSC) I had her inside for pictures last night, put her back out, and today when I came home from work I found that she had escaped the brooder and died

I just came in from burying her by the chicken coop.

Im sorry Tala. Looks like March isn't a lucky month for chickens.

At least you have your other babies and I sure there will be more chickes to come. Eva hasn't changed. She did eat some scratch today. We have a spot next to the flower beds for animals that don't pull through. I hope I don't have to use it any time soon. Just don't let any black chooks cross your path and things will get better.

No I don't think it was the dog's fault. It appeared she tried to go under the doghouse that she escaped from, and got trapped.

I moved them into the 3-sided tractor now, I don't think there is any escaping it, but I've been doing some remodel work on it so the roof isn't bolted back down so it's not predator-proofed at the moment! GAH!
