Arkansas folks speak up.........

My water bucket has almost 7" (been counting since it "started" raining since this is never-ending) and it's showing a big yellow & red patch on us that should last a while on the radar.

This is just wowza!

Oh MY GOODNESS!! Hubby called and woke me up - told me we had a tornado warning. I went out to check critters and three of my pens are underwater. We have NEVER had that happen before, I have never seen our creek rolling like it is now and that is saying something b/c even when the river flooded Malvern, we were fine. My DD lost some of her RIR 4-H chicks. I think I got everyone else moved and they are safe at the moment, I know I won't be going to bed anytime soon. I am trying to warm her chicks up at the moment. I even had to move ducks

I hope everyone else is fairing ok. Weather isn't looking good still

Rbam how are things looking this morning? We have just had crazy amounts of rain for the last 10 days straight. It's bad when even the ducks can't handle it!

I hear you Amanda! Last night was the worst night of sleep that I've never had and to imagine you up at that time in the a.m. when it was at it's worse frantically running around to save everyone!

That was just insane! The thunder and lightening was the worse I think I've ever seen it. Everytime I would drift back to sleep, another big boom would shake the entire house. My poor, poor chickens. They're the only ones outside, and their run and coop is slop. I don't have anything to put down but straw. I don't like to put straw down because it's not very absorbant, but I think today I'm going to put a few inches of it down for them just so they don't have to walk ankle deep in mud and poop. I'll worry about the clean up later.

Scot. That egg is beautiful!

I'm excited about getting some really dark eggs someday soon. I'm in it for the colorful egg basket...and the love of the chickens too. Raising them from the egg is going to get me some of the friendliest chickens, I can't wait!

I know how everyone feels about this rain. We are up on a hill, and never is there standing water in our yard. At midnight I looked out front and our street and our front yard looked like a river. So I went into the back yard and there was about 6" of water standing right out the back door. So I walked to the coop, which thank God is at the far back of our backyard on the highest point of our property. It was fine and all the birds were fine, except for the small little nest area my broody is raising her chicks in. There was a little water there, so I got a dog carrier and put it up on blocks and put them in there. As of this morning everyone is fine and all the water has moved on downhill. I can't believe how much water dumped out of that storm in such a shot amount of time. Never have I seen anything like that in my life. Crazy stuff!

I hear ya, friendly chickens come from hand raising.

Well - we lost all the RIR chicks but a couple.

The water has gone down some - I am getting ready to put the birds back in their pens and move some others out of their b/c of the mud

I had emptied out one of those blue plastic kiddie pools last week before all the rain started, it is the bigger one that you can get. It is completely full of water.

That is a lot of rain.

We got 5 inches of rain on friday, yesterday our ground was drying up and since midnight last night until about an hour ago we got another 4 inches! We're pretty high up on a hill but have standing water in our yards, pasture and our woods are under water..the bottom of our driveway and our road are completely under water. We had no electricity from 4 am until an hour ago.

rbamterry, I'm so sorry you lost your chicks :-(

Jarhead, your eggs are beautiful! I've got a darling 11 month old Cuckoo Maran Roo who was going to end up in a Lady's canning jars if I didn't take him home with me. I love him to bits and he's so gentle and friendly. I'm hoping to get him some Maran Gals sometime this summer.

Tala, LOL on the Homer/Redneck comment!

Hatching eggs....I've had success recently hatching one chicken egg in a shoebox with a heating pad over it set on low. I have an order of day old chicks coming next week from MMH, I ordered a few banty girls so they can be my broody hens next year :) I asked my husband for an incubator for my birthday (#50 coming up in a couple of weeks) so that I can hatch duck eggs once my Pekins start laying...I SOOOOOOOOO hope he gets me one!

There's sunshine out there!!!

I went home for lunch and started pulling straw out from under our nestboxes to toss in the run. For some reason, the EE's keep kicking it out and it's been accumulating so I thought I'd use it for a few mudholes in the coop, well when I started picking it up, it was full of earthworms! My hens had a spree!!!

No pun intended when I say "when it rains, it's pours".

Plum: Get your incubator for mother's day! What better gift for mom's day huh?

What is that bright thing in the sky.

All I can hear is chain saws buzzing in the distance. White utility trucks everywhere. The clean up is going great.
