Arkansas folks speak up.........

I'm in a delima..I've had to seperate one of my cochin banties from the others...she was being harrased by my polish roos. she's the smaller of the two banties-well in the entire flock. she does just fine with everyone else but those polish are just not letting up. so if i keep her seperate from the others at nigt will she be able to still be flock worthy. when they are out and about during the day it's not a big deal but when i shut them up at night she can't get away from them...will they stop letting her be in the flock if she is seperate them at night? i plan on getting rid of the polish except for one...i'm hoping that will calm things down big time!!!! i'm just afraid the dinamitics of the flock will change if she doesn't roost with them at night..thanks!!!

If you need to separate her at night, you should be OK. During the day she has room to get away from the buillies and the rest should be OK with her.

I've had problems like that when integrating new chicks or when a broody weans hers. A hen often leaves her regular roosting spot to be brutal to the younger chicks. I've had chicks that were used to roosting on the main roosts go look for a safer place to spend the night.

I don't know what your coop and roosts look like. I set up a separate roost, lower than the main ones and off to the side to give those chicks a better place to go than the nest boxes. That's helped out at bedtime.

Wecome I am in Dover..
I have a sister and brother-in-law that have lived in Dover for years. I live in Mena. I am also looking for some FBCM hens. I have 1 rooster that is a great guy. I have 10 4-H chickens that were on my porch one day when I came home (thanks to a neighbor) 4 backyard banties, 1 Tyson hen (rescue), 4 Australorps, 1 FBCM rooster and 1 Ameracauna rooster. I am not getting many eggs right now, about 4 a day. The 10 4-H chickens are all molting and are looking raggedy and mangy! The Australorps are laying the most and my banties are laying now and then and the Tyson hen is so fat and wide she can hardly walk. She hardly ever lays and is just a pet. l was told that she should would probably not live long. The Ameracauna rooster is housed with the Australorps and the FBCM is with the banties. The 4-H chickens have their own house. I plan to put my FBCM rooster with my Australorps and try to hatch me a few chick from than cross eventually. The Aussies lay some nice brown eggs and I hope to at least have some that lay even darker eggs. Hoping this experiment works. Seems like I am feeding quite a few chickens alot of feed lately with not much of a reward! Lol

There's a FBCM breeder in Oppelo, AR- just south of Morrilton on hwy 9. I have two beautiful FBCM hens, a Barnvelder, Lavender Orphington, and a true Amerucana all from them. I buy laying quality hens and don't have a rooster, because I just want fresh eggs and live In town. But they do sell chicks, show quality birds and hatching eggs. They may even do a special mix of you ask. I just got two Olive Egger pulets from them as well. Hope this helps.

You can tell them that Melissa in Clarksville that just picked up the olive Eggers recommends them
