Hey fellow Arkies,
I've never had chickens in the snow before. last time it snowed they were just a date in a hatchery catalogue. So my set up is that I have a large chicken tractor in a fenced back yard. I usually leave it open so they can come and go. I assume they don't need to get their feet cold and wet in the snow. My plan is to leave them closed up and keep them in treats and water. The tractor design is roost and nest box on top and a run underneath. Also there's a brooder light in the roost area. I have it on a timer from 4pm to 10 pm. It gives them extra light and heat. The run underneath is covered by the roost and a roof. Is there anything else I need to know? I don't want miserable chickies. Otherwise I'm ridiculously excited about the prospect of snow!

I took this photo when it was 4 degrees above zero Fahrenheit. I leave the pop door open and let them decide what to do. As long as a cold wind is not blowing mine don't mind the cold. They don't like a cold wind though.

When it snows mine usually are scared of it and won't go in it for the first day or two. But when we got that 9" snow a year or two ago and it actually stayed on the ground a few days, mine were out walking in it once they got used to it. They don't like anything different but it's the newness that bothers them, not the cold.

Rain, sleet and ice mixed here.
Chickens are huddled up in he barn.
Got the most eggs today than I have in a while also. 8 (eight).
