That’s pretty much how my yard is set up now! (Previously raised beds for vegetables. Whatever lawn we ever had is far back in the rearview mirror.) We’ve been snaking chicken fencing among the beds, planting in succession, which sorta works, except that they can clear out a bed a lot faster than it took to plant it. But I have some ideas on this.
One trick i have had success with is using plastic garden fencing around plants, not upright but flat on the ground.
I will look for a photo

I wasn’t clear about the perch, that was Bea. But Hazel was thinking of some up (into the coop) and she did stand on that low perch briefly.
I’m hoping more visits will be productive too. This all happened before the late afternoon peak hormone time for him, maybe that helped.

Note on squawking and all related to this: after Shehnai and the Littles went back to their yard, I closed the divider and gave each side some pellets and all on their “treat” tables, hoping to calm everyone. Everybody ate with gusto. Then Shehnai started to crow. After each crow, Hazel answered him with a very long, very loud caw. This happened three times.

I didn’t know what to make of it, but it felt defiant on Hazels part, though I might have been reading that in. I’ve never heard her answer a crow before. Each leader was asserting themselves?
I haven't heard/seen that from my ladies either. Definitely something to observe and report back on.

Cracked and broken (like my heart) I have egg eaters in my flock. Lecturing them didn’t do any good. I must try to check the coop more often than I do! :barnie :hit
Mine will do that when calcium is in short supply. If they have eggshells AND oystershell available, they won't unless an egg gets broken

I’m getting small light brown eggs, from the area where the 10 hang out. It doesn’t mean that they are laying them, but possibly.
I really want those dark chocolate brown eggs.
More important than color... love the healthy eggs & chickens 🩷 We were on an egg color kick for a couple yrs but realized healthy birds/eggs was where it was at.

Happy Friday! Below I have two Easter Egger butts - one fluffy (Emily) and one kind of skinny and not so fluffy (Olivia).
