I've been kind of wanting to go to a swap. What do you look for to make sure you don't bring home any diseases to your own flock?

There's never a 100% guarantee but the basics are-feather quality, bright shiny eyes, over all wellness. Just try to follow your gut-if they just don't look right or if they just seem to sitting there and look droopy then might not be a good idea

BUT also remember they are a little ruffled up, they were caught, stuffed into a cage, they are hearing the other animals, are in a new space and it could be hot or cool outside, etc. When going to a swap just walk around a look very closely at them all-keep walking around and observing the birds. take your time-not buy on impulse, don't snatch up the first thing you see.

I find that if I take my time and stroll through then I am much happier with anything that I buy-know what you want and try to stick to it---bring lots of extra cages

That is what my wife and I do at a reptile show.. The wife and I use to breed geckos and bearded dragons. It is always take a look at the animals. the condition of the enclosure/cage. observing whether the reptiles were bright eyes and active. The hundred and one things to look for would and probably do fiill a book. most of which is subjective. At the same time the more objective parts of health and how well the breeder or seller knew the animals was as important in buying any animal.

I guess the same could be true at a swap.

Well, my Silkie hen finally went broody

and I'm looking for some pure-breed, fertile Silkie eggs for her to hatch. I live in Searcy, AR in White County. Is there anyone near me who has some eggs they'd be willing to sell me?
