Arkansas folks speak up.........

Would anyone on here near Sherwood be interested in some silkie mix chicks? I bought them as pure silkies and turns out they aren't. The breeder offered me new silkies since these were mixes and after I confirm she doesn't want a trade out I'll be rehoming them. There are 2 that will be going.

Does anyone know what a Buff Brahma and Silver laced Wyandotte crossbred chicken will look like? BC Popeye my Rooster has a thing for my 4 SLW ladies! This is Popeye!

If your not in a rush than I got 5. If I have 2 roos then I'll sell you a pair. Or trade. I'm really trying to get blue silkie hens or splashes!

I need advice. I have 4 hens but only one is laying and its not an every day thing. We are giving high protein food, they have been out of molt for over a month now, have been giving laying pellets, they spend the day running around the garden that's 20x40, I have put a light in the coop to combat the cold and shorter days.....why aren't they laying?

How old are they? My silkie just started laying and has only laid one egg like 2 days ago at this point. It takes them a while when they first start... also what breed are they (some lay better than others) and are you sure they aren't laying somewhere that your just not finding the eggs?

3 are SLW and one is RIR. The SLW are over a year old and the RIR was a late April chick so she's 6 mos. We have searched the garden and the coop but have come up with nothing.

This time of year they don't usually lay very well. If they are in a runn with a coop for them to get into out of the weather, you can add a light and that will help the laying problem some.
How long have you had them? Sometimes it takes them a while to recuperate from being moved.

I see that you said you put a light in the coop.
Sometimes you just need to give them time. As far as th RIR goes depends on the lines they are from may not start laying until it is 7 to 8 months old.
It could also be that the SLW's are taking turns laying.

Are they drinking plenty of water? A laying hen can drink up to 17 oz. (500ml) of water daily. Even one day without adequate water can make a hen stop laying. Always ensure that their water is fresh and palatable. Hens need consistency in everything — food, water, light exposure, and daily routines with minimal stress from any source. Ensure that their coop is free of drafts, but adequately ventilated.

Hens need a minimum of 14 hours of light per day to keep them laying, and it has to be consistent. Use a timer to keep it consistent. If your area experiences power outages like we do here, then a digital timer with a battery backup is a good option.

Here is a good resource: http://poultrykeeper.com/keeping-chickens-faq/why-have-hens-stopped-laying
Good luck!
