Arkansas folks speak up.........

Hi everyone! I'm new to BYC and am in the process of hatching my first set of chicks (on day 6)

Welcome.
I've been lurking for a while. We're up in the northeast corner of Izard County with five hens — 3 BR, 2 BSL — and one BR rooster named Buster. The girls have been batting 600 and 800 every day lately, which is a big improvement from just 10 days ago.
The ground is finally firming up around here; it's been muddy for weeks. Every time the "permafrost" melts a little, the top 2 inches turns to sloppy mush. It usually firms up again overnight then melts again.
Anyone else experience that? And if so, how did you deal with it?

Howdy!

NWA people we need to set up a swap day for fertile eggs and chicks or just purchase day!!!

I've still got some Cockerels that need new homes. I would be up for that. NWA is closer to me than Saline co. where they have monthly auctions.

Drew County, Monticello. Haven't been on in awhile. We have two ducks, a pekin and a black Swedish. She started laying right before Christmas. We tried incubating a batch that failed, but we learned A LOT! We have our second batch incubating along with some bantam eggs (hoping for some silkies) and hopefully khaki Campbell eggs that we got from a friend. So far this second batch is a MUCH better experience. The chicks are expected the week of valentines and the ducks a week later.
