Arkansas folks speak up.........

I have received notice on numerous occasions that 729 is embargoed because of dry ice shipments. Basically any live shipments get "bumped" if a plane with dry ice is due to fly.

Zip Code Embargoes. The USPS has issued a list of embargoed zip codes for the shipment of live chicks. All zip codes that begin with the following numbers are designated dry ice routes and are not suitable for the shipment of live animals from our region. Though you may have received chicks at these zip codes from other hatcheries, please keep in mind that these hatcheries are located in different regions that do not share the same restrictions. If you place an order for a shipment to one of the following zip codes, we will have to cancel the order and your payment will be refunded in full.

So does this mean we cannot get chicks shipped in, or that we cannot ship them out. Nevermind I see that that is for Green fire Farms shipment. What I don't understand though is what dry ice routes have to do with getting chicks.

Thanks for the info. I haven’t been able to find the exact embargo but at least I found out enough.

Yes, that depends on the routes to us not from us, so some hatcheries will be affected, some won’t.

Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. As it thaws it releases carbon dioxide gas. In a closed area like a cargo hold, that could suffocate the chicks or any other live animal.

I wouldn't have thought they they'd even be considers the same kind of cargo to be shipped together.

Oh well what do I know anyway. Just thinking out loud on the forum.

We hatched these three babies in the past 24 hours. It's our first hatch. Three bantams and I hope they are silkies.
