Arkansas folks speak up.........

when I was growing up I always wanted chickens and well everything else but we had a commercial broiler farm with 4 tunnel houses so we weren't allowed to have any other poultry at all .

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas poultry officials say a strain of avian flu has been detected in a commercial turkey flock in the northern part of the state and that the sick birds are being destroyed.

The Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission said Wednesday it was following federal protocols to ensure the affected birds did not enter the food supply. Tests will also be conducted to make sure the disease hasn't spread.

The virus is not known to cause disease in humans.

The agency said it was notified of a potential infection on Sunday and that test results by the National Veterinary Services Lab confirmed the presence of the H5N2 flu.

Missouri agriculture officials said this week that avian flu had been found on two turkey farms in that state.

Seen the latest on avian influenza.

I've got 10 of my own set. There are 20 that are laid by NN hens and fertilized by Aloha rooster.

Chech out this thread:

Tell how they are trying to get something going.

The NN were just a side out cross, but so cool I'm trying to use these birds to get some Cslico Nsjed Necks going. She also sent along done of the Aliha eggs so I can get some more of the spots going.

I need some advice... is this a rooster or hen? He/she is currently about 6-7 mos. Old and isn't crowing or laying eggs so I just don't know.

What breed of chicken? if its an Ameracana you cannot tell the sex by their pea comb. the only time I can tell whether it's a hen or rooster, male or female, is when they are three days old. I do the wing feather test, and have been almost a hundred percent accurate.

BTW, I just found this thread!" Howdy yall!", from Fayetteville!

(I love waaaaay out in the country, but it is still a Fayetteville address.) I happened into this forum when yall were discussing the 7 chicken law. I can see it, for in towners, but who the hell would pass it for countryes folks? (If they DID include us...don't know myself.) The laws that Ridgerider posted states that only hatcheries, and wholesalers can sell a certain number of eggs/chickens? Really? Sounds like it was written to keep the little farmers from doing any business. We can GIVE them away but can't sell them,,seriously! What is going on!
I moved to Arkansas because I loved the beauty. I moved to the country because I wanted to have more freedom! Now I hear that folks are passing laws that prohibit me from being an 'old country farmer', in the very since of the words. What is wrong with those city slickers that they want to mess with the foundation of our wonderful state? AKA our country life?
Sorry for the rant. I just needed to vent. Don't mean this directed at anyone...but the politicians, and those who are willing to go to a city meeting and let our law makers know how we feel, so we can keep our freedom.
BTW, does anyone know the laws for selling eggs at the farmers market?

I'm so proud to be a part of your group. I just love my chickens and their beautifuly colored eggs.

I have Amaracanas, Marans, and now hopefully some olive-eggers. The O.E's are too young to lay yet, so I am just holding my breath in hopes of some beautiful eggs.
