Congrats on an AWESOME first hatch Roche! Have you counted the boys and girls?

We set the post for our new run this morning and the cement is drying. Hopefully the rain will hold out so that we can do the wire sometime this weekend. And I'm getting the brooder ready for the egglets today.

Looks like 6 or 7 boys. 10 or 11 of the 16 are feather legged. I can't believe the hatch I got, but very thankful for it.

Here they are! Some of my Gold Cuckoo Marans. Now, why are they all different colors? I'm going to post the pics on another thread and see if anyone knows.

Golden cuckoos! They're adorable.

I dunno about the little black one. Maybe it recessed back to the black cuckoo maran gene? It appears to be a pullet though!..er maybe

I've gone cuckoo for marans.....and hatching eggs. Incubator is running with 3 dozen eggs in it this time! Not just marans, got a duck egg, guinea eggs, couple banty eggs, EE's, and some other mix I don't remember, LOL, 10 cuckoo maran eggs, and 4 light brahma x eggs. I also have a few silkie eggs coming from egg swap!


Just guide me to the next hatch aholics anonymous meeting.

What kind of incubators do yall use? I've been thinkin of either buying one or making one myself. My husband thinks making one will be less expensive. Lately he has been randonly (in my opinion) picking things up and saying we could use them to build an incubator.

I'm just using a cheapy Little Giant right now. I'm working on building another one. The Little Giant with a fan was almost $80. The one I'm making I'm going to use a plain light socket with dimmer switch and computer fan. I will probably buy a large styrofoam ice chest.
