Arkansas folks speak up.........

Squeeeee! A baby silky! Congrats on your single hatchling Roche.)

My Black Copper Maran eggs are due on father's day, but i've candled them and all but one are duds...

if I'm lucky, I'll get one of them to hatch cause only one of them are dark inside and all of the others are clear. I placed 3 of my own eggs in with them and all 3 of those are viable, so if I only get one BCM, at least it won't be lonely.

Can't wait to see what my own chicken's offspring will look like. These will be BO hen and white EE roo mixes.

Awww, Chicky Tocks

I have 4 Black Copper Maran, 1 Black Maran, and 2 Splash Maran due to hatch around July 4th. I haven't even tried candling yet. I'm afraid what I might see! They are shipped eggs of course, but those I really really want! My silkie eggs were shipped and didn't do well. My guineas, unknown banties, and duck egg were also shipped and doing great so I guess it is just a crap shoot!

*sniff* Yeah...I waited a lonnnnng time to get these BCM eggs. Every other time I almost had them, the deal would fall through and FINALLY! Then they're a dud batch. Well I can't blame the sender really. The box that they arrived in had one not toooo tragically dented corner, but I just crossed my fingers, rested them overnight, said a little prayer over them and put them in the incubator. I think that drop might have scrambled them. If I get one, it better be a HEN!

I had the same thing happen to me. It really sucks. We wait so long and and have high hopes for the chicks. I only got 1 out of 13. One cockrel.

Ducks take forever to hatch - I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!!!

They have larger "windows" now where they pipped, seems like they keep chipping away at the same spot. We can look in the nest and watch them all moving inside the shells through the shell "windows". They are talking too, sound like chicks peeping. Out of the 13 there was one that had not pipped, so I picked it up gently and put it to my ear, no sound no movement. A quick candle revealed there was nothing. So out of 13, 12 are hatching!

Not too bad of a hatch rate... so far anyway. Hopefully the rest will make it.

I am going to feel bad tomorrow when I pinion them

Really that is our only option though, don't need our ducks flying around the neighborhoods in North Little Rock and Little Rock. I know I could just keep up on clipping wings, but I would hate to miss a clipping and loose one. Plus technically we will be against code since chickens are OK, but ducks are not. So I think the pinioning is the way to go.

Go duckies! I would love love love to hatch a few ducks, but my DH has been so good to me about my chicken obsession. He's built me a new run and he gets excited for them to hatch with me....he's just been so good that I don't want to test him by asking for a duck pen...

Well, maybe next year.
