Arkansas folks speak up.........

Thank you soooo much jenjscot....I didn't realize it was going to be so bad, I went down and put the tarps down around the pens to enclose them. Poor things, I hope I can at least put them up for a little bit tomorrow.

It really is not cold enough here to worry about all that stuff. As long as they have a place to stay dry and it is draft free, and they have a wide enough roost to stand on they are good. Ours still go outside from sun up to sundown even on the coldest days. It's fun watching them run around in that snow we get 1 or 2 days a year. We have never had any issues with the cold due. Very rarely I need pull out the plug in heated waterer to keep it from freezing. That is the only thing I do.

I board up the backs of my pens/coops, which are normally open except for welded wire and hardware cloth, but I leave the wire front doors uncovered. This way there is cold fresh air but no big breezes going through or drafts. It's really worse for them to get too much moisture built up in the coop and bad ventilation, that it is to get cold, so don't close them up too tightly. I've never lost one to the cold.

Urban dreamer, funny video. I admit I had to laugh.

I wish I had one of me the day I let out a perfect preditor warning call, like a long screech. All the chickens were out in the yard and everyone disappeared in a matter of seconds, in the bushes, the garden, the coop, they all just disappeared! I was so proud of myself, and went inside and told the kids about it. We all went out and I did it again, and they all just turned and looked at me, like "You idiot, you don't seriously think we'd fall for that one again did you?" Lol!
