Arkansas folks speak up.........

When I fed one, I wrappred her in a towel to keep her under control, sort of held her up-side-down under one arm, and fed her with a medicine dropper. She had hurt her neck, maybe from flyng down from the roost and hitting the feeder, and was lethargic, not eating or drinking. Her head was sucked straight back into her body. Anyway, I used the medicine dropper and fed her some of that hummingbird food, the red liquid watered down, trying to get her energy up plus I was worried about dehydration. I fed her twice, one evening and the following morning, then she started eating and drinking on her own.

I called the county extension agent, who put me in touch with a Dr. Clark at U of A in Fayetteville. We discussed the symptoms over the phone and determined she had prob bly hurt her neck, that it was probably not a disease. Did not cost a cent.

Good luck with yours.

Thanks.
He didn't make it.

Right now I got him chillin on the back porch (seein as it's plenty cold) because there's not enough room in the fridge. I recall from lab that refrigeration is actually better than freezing.
I got to go to work in about 30 min so can't do much today. I'll see if I can get him tested tomorrow though!
Off to wash all the towels I used on him

I've dealt with some bird death these last couple of days myself. My hatch was crap, I managed 8 chicks out of 20 eggs, 2 of which died and another's so weak, I don't think it will ever get to be strong enough to join the others. I have one little chick that is a bully pecker. For the life of me I don't know what to do with this chick! I have him in a jail brooder right now. He stayed in it all night long, and I put him back in with the others this morning and he immediately started pecking again! So back into jail he went.

I have some serama eggs due any day now and I'm worried about them being shipped in this weather.

It's gotta get better!!

Taking my dead chicken to Little Rock for testing. There is no charge for backyard flocks, so that is a relief to me! Of course I'll let you guys know if they find anything
