These slatebelt monsters come from Wilds of Pa here on BYC. or Hink-jc Mountain Poultry at this link. These are really big birds. The thing you have to remember is, you cant' just keep everything and breed it and expect it to keep its size. Like chickens, you have to save the best and eat the rest. Only breed the biggest. I think that is what has happened when you get those smaller GG and Butlers. My GGs are not mature yet, but they don't look like they are going to get as big as the slatebelt monsters.

NOOOOOOOO... the rain is starting to freeze... 1/8 in of ice so far... this is not what we need right now...

We have about 1/8" ice on everything but it has changed to snow. We'll see how much we get. At least we still have electricity. I'll be a bit surprised if that lasts.

Here in the LR area we've had a little rain and a little snow, but so far no accumalation.

I am worried about my chickens! I live in Fayetteville and the weather is nasty. I have four bantam cochin pullets that around abovt 6 months old and 1 that is 7 months old. I have a silkie that is only about three months old. They are in an outside coop that is entirely chickenwire. I've put tarp over it with some gaps for ventilation and there is a heat lamp in there as well. It feels really cold in there and wednesday we are supposed to have -7 degrees. Should I move them into the garage? I hate the idea of anyone, animal or person, being cold. Stupid winter!

My 8 week olds were out running around in the pouring rain this morning. They had "mush" for breakfast coz I left their feeder out

they are all under the lamp now, but I'm sure they are fine with their doghouse keeping the wind off. My adult chickens have a wind block and a tarp but otherwise an open pen, and no heat lamp, and they were running around like it was normal when I got off work - guess they didn't hear the radio say windchill of 9.....their feathers are wonderfully insulating! Unfortunately for me, all my padlocks are frozen stiff. I couldn't get into the coop or get the card out of my game camera
