I"m not real new to the site, just new to posting ...been reading for awhile now. I'm new to chickens

have 16 leghorn laying hens. They are so cute! I'm near Jonesboro and loving it here. Lived in South Arkansas most of my life, near El Dorado but have been in this area a year now. Glad to meet you all....and now, I'll continue reading!

Jarhead, when I wanted to feed Purina Sunfresh feeds and I couldn't find any around here, I talked to the manager of the local farmer's co-op and he was able to order it for me. Stores generally keep on the shelves what they know will sell, but that doesn't mean they can't get other things if you ask. Just a suggestion.

Howdy Sittinpretty! Welcome aboard! What kind/how many chickies do you have?

Gritsar - I can get the Purina feed. The Purina website has some pretty good info and the Sunfresh looks pretty good. How do you like it? I may just go for it instead of organic.
Thanks

I like it alot. Very fresh looking and smelling. The marigold extract they add makes for very yellow yolks.

If you find a distributor that will only ship large orders, I'd be willing to go in on it. I think that's what keeps people from stocking it here, not knowing they'll be able to sell. So IF they can get it, they will only do large orders.

Last count I think was 45 chickens 5 guineas. I have RIRs, Barred Rocks, Black Sex Link, EE, 1 polish crested, Osterlops, and a bunch of mixed. I have 15 eggs incubating with Old English Banties, RIR banties, EE, and some that I can't remember right now. I've had chickens for about 5-6 years now and they are so interesting. I also have 2 little black chickens that I got from a rescue I volunteer for, but I have no idea what kind they are.

I will keep it in mind ninjapoodles. I contacted an organic feed company in NW Arkansas as well. I go to Mt. Home a few times a year, so I thought I might get it there and bring it home. I will let you know either way. If I am already up there picking it up, a few more back in the back of the trunk for you won't be a problem

Sittinpretty - sounds like you have a nice flock. Good job on the rescue work, always like to hear stuff like that
