Around the farm #1 In Photos - Gamebirds and Waterfowl

That silly hen has yet to be caught!! Since her escape from the main run she has taken up digs with the guineas. I hope she doesn't go broody.

We have Rouens that are similar to the Appleyards. We love watching them roam around. Your quail are just adorable. I imagine you sitting and enjoying your birds every day. That would be wonderful.

Thanks for sharing your birds.

We are just in the past couple of years seeing a few small wild covey of quail showing up in our area. It's nice to see the pheasant and quail coming back. We have herds of turkeys come through our pasture and yard on a regular basis. I have always like watching them come through.

Is there anyway you can catch her at night? My Splash Orp roo Geronimo got his name from his escapades when we would try to catch him after it was dark out. He is an expert in chicken guerrilla warfare.

He would wait for me to sneak up on him and at the last second give out a blood curdling shriek and disappear into the night. He learned that he could hide in the weeds along the ditch bank and no one could find him. I even fell in the ditch once at about 11 PM because I was hot on his trail and he made a 90 degree turn on me at the ditch. We finally caught him by sneaking up from both sides so when he was ready to jump away from DW who was holding the light on him, I snagged him from behind.

Good luck!

She goes UNDER the barn at night. I am not going under after her. Who knows what else might be lurking under there???????

The ducks are nothing but a giant mess. LOL They are very pretty but I will be keeping only a few to have some eggs next spring.

The geese are my favorite of the two.

That barn is nearly the length of a HS football field. I don't think there is a stick long enough to prod her out.
