I'd like to introduce everyone to Lucky's new drake, Spike! We were able to find a Silver Appleyard at the NC State Fair. After a sad experience loosing a drake that Curiositycat gave us, we are over the moon about Spike. The two hang out side by side all day, whether in the pool, or in the yard. Maybe SA babies are in out future...

Thanks! My dh just cut the 55 gal. barrel in half and welded a spigot to the drain hole. The pump is in their pool and a hose drains it into the top where the plants help clean it before it pours back into the pool. I need to find some better plants to help with the filtering. Maybe cattails? I think I'll try those in the spring.

iamcuriositycat FYI BEWARE of Catstails they are INVASIVE! I have some in my bog and they suck up the water like no tomorrow. Then they spread (via wind) to my upper biofilter and now I have to rebuild that. I loose about 15 gallons a day to the catstails out of my pond in the summer. If you have plenty of cheap water that's OK, but for us it's

$150.00/2 month water bill in the summer.

wow! $150/2 months?!!! ok, maybe there is another way. ...but, it will only be in the upper barrel to hopefully suck up the muck. Maybe I'll give it a try and if it is a disaster, put them back in the drainage poind where I will nick them from.
