1. Hardwood and tile throughout the house. Carpet is a hair magnet.
2. Shop vac. Not the fancy household vacuums that cost a small fortune. Just a $50 shop vac with a crevice attachment. Not as pretty as a Dyson, but it works just as well--even better, because it can pick up the nasty barfs as well as the hair.
3. Washable slipcovers. Failing that, put sheets over furniture and take 'em off for guests.
4. Comb critters daily. That way, the majority of the hair is confined to the area where you comb them. Not all, but most.
5. Humans with long hair need to keep it braided or in a bun whenever they are not in the shower. Ponytails are insufficient to contain shedding. Ask me how I know.
We have two big fluffy dogs (Pyrenees & a Newfoundland), three cats (two shorthair, one longhair), and two longhaired humans.
And we vacuum once a week. Provided you never show up at our house on Day 6, you'd think it was pretty clean...
