Arthritis/foot injury on runner duck

Hi @DuckyDuckTheDuck,

:welcome and I'm sorry no one has responded to your post yet.

You could try containing her to a small area if you haven't already done so she can't put too much weight on her foot and give her a low tub so she can just sit and soak. That seems to help when one of my ducks gets a bad limp.

Also, I heavily dose them on niacin. I give them this (from Tractor Supply):

Dosage (for me) is about a tablespoon in a cup of feed twice a day. It generally clears things up in a few days.

Hope this helps!
I hope it's ok to reply here about my own issue

I bought this exact B complex for my Black/Blue Swedish(M/14Yrs) after reading this post. He probably has some arthritis, but his limp came when he fell off the deck.

I've been keeping him inside with his brother, and trying to do water therapy but finding a tall enough container/kiddie pool where he can't get out that is also potable water safe has been difficult.

Anyway my question is about the b complex, it says on mine niacinamide, not niacin. And it looks identical to the same bottle.

Is this what it says for you?

And what's the difference between niacin and niacinamide for ducks? Will it still work as intended?

I've realized after 14 years, the feed I've been giving them seems to have only .1mg of niacin per x Lb. I can't believe I missed this, I didn't think it would be so drastic of what was in the feed. But here I am, and now will be giving them proper Niacin for all of them(young and old) .

But for my black/blue Swedish with a limp(Vanilla(I thought he was going to be a girl at that time, don't hurt me lol)), I want to give him something like this to help. But holding back because of the niacinamide vs niacin question

Ty for listening(reading)
I hope to hear from someone

Hi and :welcome!

Poor Vanilla! Hopefully it wasn't too bad of a fall. Do you think he could have sprained or broken something?

For water therapy I used a low plastic bin from Walmart and changed out the water when it got too dirty.

I just checked my bottle of Durvet and it does say niacinamide. I don't think I ever noticed that before - thanks for pointing that out!

I looked up a couple different Vitamin B boosters made specifically for poultry and they all say niacinamide as well. It appears that niacinamide is a form of niacin but they're basically the same. I don't think it will affect your ducks at all! :).

Hope this helps and Vanilla makes a speedy recovery!

Ty!

A sprain with arthritis effects is what I'm thinking, I was there for it, and I don't think anything worse than a sprain. But it has been many weeks

I used to bring all my ducks to the vet, get an xray at least, but the vets never gave any good solutions like on this forum

Ya I noticed that too with a lot of duck vitamins, but I just wanted to make sure, and see why niacinamide is used instead of niacin

Problem with even my regular kiddie pools and a larger taller bin kiddie pool made out of Polypropylene, unlike my Runner who will sit in the water allllll day long, my sweedish duckys(all ducks are duckys to me) never really wanted to be in for longer than 15 min

Ok I'll try the b complex as was talked about!
Probably start at half of what you gave, just to see. I wish I could use something like bread to soak it up, but as a daily thing I don't like that idea for the long term. They do love sweet unsalted canned corn. But that doesn't exactly absorb... Now another pickle

Ty for responding!!
