The kid who I hit was someone who I was once friends with, but he was pretty unreliable, and he would only want to be my friend some of the time. When he didn't, he would do things like trying to hit me, steal my stuff, etc. One day I was getting my stuff at the end of the school day, and he kicked me in the shin, so I hit him in the nose with the palm of my hand, and gave him a pretty bad bloody nose.
