It isn't a technical term, but the meaning of the phrase "academic crippledom" is sufficiently conveyed by the meaning of the words used, IMO.

My brother used to get in fights, so my mother sent him off to live with my uncle and he finished high school there, then joined the Army. The combination of living with my uncle, then joining the Army cured him.
