Yes , both the same . We had 2 blue and 2 white eggs , unfortunately the blue weren't fertilised. When should we help duck number 2 some more do you think ? I was just worried when I saw the red spots as we broke him out and stopped but I realise he isn't going to be able to get himself out now is he ? I'll go out the first born in the brooder now he's had chance to dry a bit . He's desperate to stand up but we were worried it was too soon for the brooder ! We thought it was around 6-12 hours , but duck is so active . I thought he'd be zonked out like we are after his ordeal but he's keen to explore the world !Netty congraduations on the wild one - whew! Were both parents the same breed of duck?

Now I've heard the word it was probably a blood spot ! I think he's more than ready to come out being as duck number 1 is sizeable . Shall we try get him out a little more ?If he's up, active and ready to go, go ahead and move him... some put theirs right into the brooder after hatch, it's personal choice really... but better to keep him from trampling the other right now...
Was it just a blood spot or did it drip?

Here's a trick I learned for wrong end pippers... take a sharp screw or nail and carefully twist/drill until you get the point through to make a hole where the air cell is at... once there is a tiny hole, lever the nail/screw tip to pop out a piece of shell, then open up the air cell really well, like you did for the first duckling... oil up the membrane, check it for veins and also you should be able to see in through it to see if there is still yolk to absorb...
The umbilical is still attached , there's no yolk in there ! Do you think he'll make it ?
we can try , he's flat out on the floor at the moment . Won't he fall out . I'll have a look for some pictures on line so I don't get it wrong !No yolk, but the navel is still open... can you set him in a tiny cup inside the bator with his butt sitting inside the shell?
