Assisted Hatch Chick put back under Broody Hen, Help Please

It hatched and looks good, so far. The only thing I see, without disturbing them, is a tiny little piece of "vein" still attached to the eggshell. I think it will dry up, looks like umbilical??? It is very small. Also, I think I hear the other one zipping. I'm on a run right now to get Dimetaceous Earth, as I am seeing more mites and I hate to use Sevin. Any thoughts on that? I'm going to move mom and chicks to an entirely different container and move nothing with them, in hopes that it will help, but mom has some. Or, the other thing I can do, is put babies in a separate container to more easily watch them for mites. I'm not sure what to do, but for certain, mites are already going to them. I know that they could quickly cause harm to the little ones.

Congrats on the baby! Sevin is a great treatment for mites, but it's used "off-label" now. If you're worried ask at the feed store what other poultry dust they have available. I've heard mixed reviews on DE. Some say it works, some say it didn't do much. But dust them with something a.s.a.p. Mites can kill small chicks.

x2 CONGRATS!!!

Both are doing good, the assisted one is finally trying to stand, after like 7 hours, but I have given it sugar water, seemed to help, as it didn't look good for awhile. Then, the other one zipped on its own. The only thing I notice as I've only moved mom to see it, was a little protrusion?? round, in the belly button area, I think that is what I'd call it. It isn't bleeding or anything. I think I've read about that, but not sure and I'm going to let it go for now, until mom and babies sleep through the night. Looks like we may have 2 turn out ok. Hope mom stays laying on them. We completely moved mom and babies to a "new home", 100% fresh home, bedding, etc. to try to tackle the mites. There are still some. Is Sevin ok for the little ones, maybe a tiny bit of it with a QTIP,that is how I put it on the mom around her face where needed. I did put DE all around hiding parts, the lady at the feed store says it works, I also put more Sevin on mom, on her back, away from touching babies, put DE on her too, gotta tackle these things. We moved the entire old home, towels, etc. outside to freeze those mites in the snow. More later. Just hopeful for things to keep going like they are, which seems good, except those stupid mites. Thanks to all.

Protrusion? I"m glad to hear they both hatched o.k. Now you must just get those mites sorted and enjoy your chicks.

That area looks fine, I had to work, so not there. The one who hatched on own, had a weaker neck, how that improves, but is now able to stand, I think the sugar water helped, both have pooped good. Will update after I get home. Thanks

Well, they are doing well. The one with the weak neck is running around too, both are eating, I've dipped the beaks, so far 1 is drinking. I'll keep trying. The silkie hen is the white blur. They seem to be doing good, but these mites are a battle, so we'll keep trying. I hadn't wanted to bug the hen, now wondering if we keep the chicks warm if we could bathe her and blow dry, she had tons of them around her neck, I found where they are and where they have been breeding. I won't for a few days, but for now, did put some Sevin on a Qtip and rubbed in the area. I have to, there are just too many. I only see a few though climbing around, so it is working, slowly. I'm thinking these are pure Lavender/Black Ameraucana chicks, instead of the mix, but we'll see, they both are exactly the same. I did steralize a pair of scissors and cut off a long piece of umilical that was dried that was hanging. I was scared it would get stuck on something. Thanks again all, I'm hopeful that they'll keep doing well, like they are.
