I got 6 chicks from the Assorted Reds bin at Tractor Supply a month ago - these guys are now 4 1/2 weeks old, and I'm thinking I may be able to start to tell what I have on some of them. I thought this one looked like a Buff Orpington. (Yea, I know - I sure wouldn't call that an "Assorted Red" - lol)

And this one I couldn't get a decent pic of but looks a lot like the first but not as feathered in yet....

Then there's this one who has feathers that are deeper golden but I would not say red.

And I have 3 who all look exactly the same so I'll just post one pic.....quite red in those dark feathers, but def mixed with white. Can't figure out why this pic came out so small, but hopefully you can see.

And just for reference, here are all their backs as 2 day olds.

Thanks for any help!!!

Lol your in the same predicament that I am! I wanted 1 RIR and 5 buffs but instead I ended up with what I believe to be 4 RIR and 2 buffs. Looking at the youngest pic I think I see 2 maybe 3 RIR and the rest look like buffs but I'm new to these two breeds. Good luck!

I'm so glad to think I might get a couple Buffs out of the deal! I bought them on a whim and I don't have any BOs now. I was also wondering if they could be Golden Comets....but the body, especially that first one - looks very "buffish" in shape.

I think I got a bigger pic of the 3 that are the same....

By the way - that cage he/she is standing on with the other chicks in it - is NOT where they live. They free-range in a 40 ft diameter pen during the day and they sleep in that little cage in the garage until it warms up more outside and they are able to go in the coop for bedtime. I got these pics first thing this morning before they went back outside. Just in case anyone was wondering - I know how we all love our chickies here - lol.

Thanks for the help!! I'll post again in another month for advice on gender - lol.
