At loss for words!

Agree.
Its a 5 year old. it was an accident guys. Kids can be pretty insistent animals do what they want and dont think anything of it. Sorry this happened. It wont matter either way if you get new ones. He has learned to not ever do that again. Im sure hes sad too.

As an adult I've made mistakes and caused the death of chicks. This bird keeping thing is a learning curve for everyone. I've dropped a pipping parakeet egg and killed it, I've left the lid off the brooder and had a quail escape and the cat killed it (first time she's done that despite many quail escapees). I've jumped in too quickly to 'help' a chick that I thought was stuck when hatching. Everybody makes mistakes and I tell my kids there are certain things I need to do because then if something bad happens it's on my conscience, not theirs.

It was an accident but he did try to say the chicks did it after he realized the Peachy would not open the eyes and was dead. He’s a good kid but don’t think it was done on purpose or with the intent of harming the chick. He admitted to it and was scared he would get in big trouble.

Glad you asked him about it. Sorry that happened to him.

Sad. Very sad. I would not get anymore until he understands how to handle animals. Going out and buying more is not teaching him anything. You need to sit down and talk with him. My six year old knows not to touch the chicks without asking mommy and having me around to monitor. He is good with them and knows they are not -toys- and to be gentle. I'm not sure why your kid would try and force the chick to drink water, or how long he held its face in the water to have it drown...

Sorry if I'm harsh but I wouldn't get anymore or have him handle them without you there. At all.

i've had kids do crazy things and, when you get them to tell you their reasoning, it makes sense (for the age group). I think it was an accident. Kids get caught up in the moment--dip its beak to get it a drink, then give it a bath..... I'd get more. Lesson has been learned. GD always tried to give new baby brother chicken nuggets- she was sharing and stopped once we told her he had no teeth. Said grandson later was very gentle with all living things but apparently didn't know where his feet were, dangerous to his precious peeps. You know your boy. I'd get more.

As a 3 or 4 year old our son put a litter of kittens in the sink to 'wash' them. Yeah, they drowned, and guess what he did not turn out to be a sociopath. Kids do dumb stuff. To the OP you have handled things perfectly. For anyone to even infer that this might have been intentional is absolutely insensitive.
