At what age do Black Australorps begin to lay their first eggs???

I had three and they did not start laying until well past 24 weeks but when they did they were laying double yolkers so it was worth the wait and they were the sweetest girls! Very curious and friendly.

Here's my one and only Australorpe. Belle. She is around 28 weeks. Red comb. Red developed wattles. No eggs.

Maybe I have a dud.

Well all I got to say is, you got a purdy dud!

They say once their wattles and combs gets red it's a matter of a couple weeks.

Thanks! I think she is pretty too! She is very skittish of me, sadly. You'd think I was out there every day wielding meat cleavers instead passing out tasty treats and using my "pets and babies" voice.

They are all the same age but I can tell they have not all matured at the same rate.  I still have some that their combs and waddles are not as red as others or as big.  But I feed mine good laying pellets and then I take apples, broccoli, bird seed, rice, pasta, and tomatoes and other veggies I have on hand as treats.

Like people, every chicken body is different, eh?

) where you're coming from! I have SEVEN that does the SAME thing! IF one of the RIR's comes up to me to get something I am trying to feed them from my hands or I am bending down to give them, then and ONLY then will the BA's come up to me. I have started handling them more since I am down to this small amount of them but it's pretty bad. I've read they are shy my nature but good grief, the hand that feeds ya, should be a little more used to by now

I think a watched chicken doesn't lay! My australorp is 22 weeks she has very red comb and squats every time you get near her but still no eggs.

Wow finally after 22 weeks my australorp started to lay and its been an egg a day for 5 days in a row. The eggs are very small but I think that's because she's new at this. Now I'm wondering about the easter egger that's the same age.
