At what age do silkies start to lay????

Do you know what kind of silkie mix it is? It does not appear to have a silkie head? It might be more difficult to judge it's age as a mix. Very pretty though.

It looks like a partridge, I just got a partridge a few days ago, she is only a few weeks old (I hope it is a she), It is very hard to tell when they are full grown.

Lol, learned a lot just from this thread that was all wrong from the gazillions I read doing the research before I bought my little Snowball silkie. Oh well. I only have my 1 now. She is a sweetie. Not real friendly but I'm good with that. She stays near and will chat. Got her Mother's Day week and no eggs. From all I HAD read, she was WAY behind; glad to know it is totally normal. I won't look for any from her probably until spring,

I am lol-ing today. I guess for lack of a better word, we "jinxed" her. My Snowball just layed her first egg. The cutest most perfect little pinkish brown egg.(for some reason I was expecting white?) I do not care. I am perfectly happy and proud. It is proudly posted on fb too. Yep. I'm a chicken nut

I have four silkie hens. I don't know how old they were when I got them because my husband forgot to ask the lady he got them from. But, I have only gotten three eggs so far. I got the first two within a couple days of each other about two weeks ago and a third today. I don't think they are prolific layers but the eggs taste great!

To me it does not matter they are pets not egg suppliers so I'm happy to wait

my girl laid her first egg yesterday. she hasn't got 24/7 accsess to grass but I let her out to run around every day and she is eating egg lay mix (im pretty sure. it's some kind of egg lay stuff) and if Is summer/autumn here. (Australia). I really want to know how old she is but first need to know when the aprox time of egg lay age she is. then I can do the math

Anyone able to help me out???

I have a flock of silkies. .my youngest layer was 6 months old. My new up and coming chicks are now 6 months but no eggs yet.id say for silkies the average is between 6 to 7 months old. I've heard of some start at 8 to 9 months but the average would be 6 to 7 months old. Hope this helps.

Just got my first silkie egg today and my girls are 5 1/2 months. I was worried it was going to take longer for them after reading this thread! I noticed all 3 of my silkie girls were spending a lot more time lurking around in the coop this last week instead of out in the yard so I figured something was up. Now to try and get them to use a nest box instead of the coop floor!

Wow thanks for all the info on this tread. I thought there was something wrong with my Silkie. She is 6 months old and still not laying. But it sound like silkies take longer than other chickens to lay. My husband keeps asking me when she will start earning her keep :)
