At what point will my cockerel crow?

I have four nine week old chicks and I’m unsure of their genders, one I was told by appearance is a cockerel. But at what point would I hear crowing if he is? I witnessed what I thought appeared to be attempted crowing one time maybe a week ago, but no sound came out and now I’m just wondering if a piece of food was lodged in its throat “or something” (was otherwise in no distress). I spend a fairly good amount of time with my chicks and I feel like I should’ve seen more activity if he is indeed a cockerel, but I’m also a first time chicken parent.

“He” is the grey one in the back, this photo was taken a week ago Monday. I can take a new photo if that’s helpful.

Looks more like a pullet to me. Either that or the black one in front is also a cockerel.

Every cockerel is different, they all start crowing at different times. My last hatch is 9 weeks old today and the first one just started really trying to crow this past Wednesday (I heard one maybe attempt the Friday before but wasn't certain it was a crow). Some cockerels start crowing at like 2 weeks. Some don't crow for 6-9 months.

All four of my chickens are different varieties, so I’m unsure if the ones (the two in the photo) are pullets with more mature combs or, in fact, cockerels. I’m just gonna go take a current photo of them all.

So… my coop building has been going slower than I expected for one reason or another, so they’re currently staying in my Florida room in an extra large dog crate. They’re normally outside free roaming during the day, but it’s stormy today and they don’t care for the rain.

Goldie couldn’t be bothered to get off the perch.

I’m also unsure if this matters, I got all of them from rural king and they’ve been very friendly and personable. I don’t know if it accounts to my care, but they follow me all around and I’ve seen zero aggression from any of them. They don’t like to be caught, but if I’m kneeled down they don’t mind being petted. If any were roosters would they be showing any signs of aggression by now?

Hmm, I can see why one would think cockerel. Could go either way, could be a slower maturing cockerel or a pullet. I would wait another week or three unless you hear baby crowing sooner.

sometimes roos just start crowing one day my wyandotte roo never had the crowing attempts he just started crowing one day. just look at him hes so handsome.

Looks like a Sapphire Gem pullet to me.

I'm going to vote pullet. Nothing is screaming cockerel to me. I'm also not as experienced as other folks on here so I'd wait till you hear a crow or get an egg to be 100% sure. As for showing signs of aggression that would depend on the individual chickens temperament. All my roos are sweet and calm.

usually you would just know you have a cockerel at this age ill show my cockerel at 9 weeks
