At what temp do you add a heat lamp???

I do provide nighttime heat lamp for my silkies if it gets really cold and windy(below 10) This year I have a new coop and the ceilings ae 8 feet high so I will give them a heat lamp over there roost at night if it gets below 10,they are just so little and fuzzy I can`t stand the thought of them being cole.My big girls and guys don`t get heat lamps, they are maine tuff

I have a heat lamp that goes on at 20 degrees and off at 30 degrees. That doesn't mean that it keeps the coop over 20 degrees. When it is minus 20 outside it might be minus something inside but it gives them radiant heat while they are roosting ie warms them not the air. If it is below -10 outside during the day, I keep them in. I only have 4 so they don't heat up the coop much on their own.

Got down to 28F last night here. Inside the coop this morning was 38 degrees from their body heat. 8 standards in a 6x8x7 foot ceiling...that's with roughly 8 sq. feet of ventilation up top at the seven foot level on north/south walls. Coop walls are insulated. They strolled outside like it was any other day. Not planning on heating unless I see my birds showing me otherwise.
